  Living Safely with Gas   

Q	I can smell gas but the detector has not triggered. Why?
A	The human nose is very sensitive and can detect natural gas at around 1% of LEL. (see levels in question above). In order to avoid false alarms the detector does not trigger until about 20% of LEL. Thus gas could be smelt without the detector triggering, but this is still safe.
